Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide uniform penetration by rotating the parts to be welded in the mutually opposite direction, setting the center of rotation of one of the parts to be eccentric, returning the parts to be welded in a concentrical manner when the prescribed friction heat is obtained, and pressing them against each other. CONSTITUTION:Parts 1, 2 to be welded are brought into contact with each other. Chucks 3, 4 which hold the part 1, 2 to be welded are rotated by rotating device 5, 6. At the same time, an eccentrically driving mechanism 14 is driven to set the centers of the parts 1, 2 to be welded to be eccentric. As a result, the center parts of the friction surface of the parts 1, 2 to be welded are sufficiently heated, and uniform penetration can be obtained over the whole range of the friction surface. When the friction surfaces of the parts 1, 2 to be welded are sufficiently heated by the friction heat, the centers of the parts 1, 2 to be welded are put together, clutches 9, 10 are disconnected to stop the rotation, and both parts are press-joined by a pressing device 13. The oxide on the friction surface is removed.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, in order to join rod-shaped materials to be welded, a method has been carried out in which they are arranged in contact with each other and brought into contact with each other, one of them is rotated and heated sufficiently by friction, and both of them are pressurized and joined. According to this method, joining of rod-shaped materials to be welded can be performed in an extremely short time as compared with other welding methods such as arc welding, which is a highly efficient joining method. However, in such a method, since the material to be welded is heated by friction due to rotation, the peripheral speed is different between the rotation center part and the outer peripheral part, and the amount of heat generation is different. However, in some cases, no joining may occur. In addition, the peripheral portion may be heated more than necessary in order to sufficiently melt the central portion, and this phenomenon occurs especially when the applied pressure is reduced in order to reduce burrs that occur during pressure welding.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been proposed in view of the above circumstances, and a uniform penetration can be obtained without insufficient heating of the central portion of a rod-shaped material to be welded, and friction can be obtained. An object of the present invention is to provide a rotary friction welding method by which surface oxides are removed and a good joint surface is obtained.

In the rotary friction welding method of the present invention, when rod-shaped materials to be welded are rotated in mutually opposite directions and one rotation center is eccentric, the centers of the materials to be welded are displaced, and as a result, both materials to be welded are displaced. The central portion of the friction surface of the welding material is sufficiently heated, and uniform penetration occurs over the entire friction surface.

In such an apparatus, the material 1 to be welded and the material 2 to be welded are brought into contact with each other. The chucks 3 and 4 are rotated by the rotating devices 5 and 6, respectively, and the workpieces 1 and 2 are also rotated. When the eccentric mechanism 14 is operated at this time, the centers of the welded material 1 and the welded material 2 are displaced as shown in FIG. 3, and as a result, the center portions of the friction surfaces of the welded material 1 and the welded material 2 are sufficiently moved. Is heated to a uniform temperature, and uniform melting occurs over the entire friction surface. When the friction surfaces of the material to be welded 1 and the material to be welded 2 are sufficiently heated by frictional heat, the centers of the material to be welded 1 and the material to be welded 2 are aligned as shown in FIG.
Then, the rotation is stopped and both are pressure-bonded by the pressure device 13.

Thus, according to this method, the workpieces 1 and 2 are rotated, and the centers of rotation of the workpieces 1 and 2 are eccentrically rotated, which results in insufficient heating of the center of the friction surface. As shown in FIG. 5, in the joint portion of both the materials to be welded 1 and 2 that are friction welded, a uniform penetration is obtained without occurrence, as shown in FIG. A uniform penetration can be obtained over the entire surface. Further, since the materials to be welded 1 and 2 are eccentrically rotated in opposite directions, oxides and the like on the friction surface are easily removed, and a good joint surface can be obtained. Further, since uniform melting occurs on the friction surface, the pressure applied by the pressure device 13 can be reduced.
