Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect voltage lowering by the processing of a program without detecting directly the voltage of a battery protecting a volatile memory in case that the voltage of this battery is lowered to a prescribed or less voltage. CONSTITUTION:If the power source voltage of a power supply circuit 9 is cut off during execution of a main program by some fault, a CPU1 shunts states of input/ output circuits 7 and 8 into a prescribed area of a RAM5. The RAM5 continues to hold data by a battery 11. When the power source voltage of the power supply circuit 9 is restored, the CPU1 reads out testing patterns from an area 41 of a ROM4 and an area 51 of the RAM5 respectively after discriminating that a switch 6 is not turned on. It is dirciminated whether respective testing patterns coincide with each other or not; and if they do not coincide with each other, abnormal lowering of the voltage of the battery 11 is discriminated.
