Abstract
PURPOSE: To accomplish protection of the circuit device bay means of a breakdown element with a limited capacity by connecting a series circuit having the element in which a short-circuit breakage mode exposed to an abnormal surge and a display element for indicating the state of the circuit device are arranged in parallel to the circuit device.
CONSTITUTION: When as an abnormal surge is applied between the first line 3 and the second line, the rated capacity is exceeded in a Zener diode (ZD) 201 for protecting electronic components with a minimum surge resistance, a short circuit is caused with the breakage of the ZD 201. At this point, an indication lamp 202 or an light emitting diode comes on to indicate the generation of the abnormal surge and with the replacement of the ZD, the necessary arrangement is made for the subsequent abnormal surge. At the same time, the ZD 201 won't be fused even if undergoing a short circuit, because the current is restricted by the resistance of the indication lamp 202. Normally, the lamp 202 is off because the set value of the Zener voltage is higher than the potential difference between the lines 3 and 4. Besides increasing the number of ZD to more than one, a capacitive reactance 203 and a normally open switch 5 may be added to ensure the detection of the surge.
