Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve response speed and display contrast, and to improve cycle life, by using iridium oxide as an EC material, and using a nonaqueous solvent in which has dissolved lithium perchlorate or sodium perchlorate as an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:As a composite of an electrochromic layer is used iridium oxide Ir2O3. On a transparent substrate 1 which has formed a display electrode 4 consisting of In2O3 is formed iridium Ir about 2,000-5,000Angstrom in thickness by means of vapor deposition, it is anodically oxidized by soating it into a sulfuric acid solution, by which iridium oxide is formed. As an electrolyte a nonaqueous electrolytic solution is used which is adjusted by dissolving lithium perchlorate or sodium perchlorate by about 1-3mol%, in a nonaqueous solvent such as an alcohol compound solvent, an ether compound solvent, a nitrile compound solvent, an amide compound solvent, a sulfuric compound solvent, etc., or propylene carbonate.
