Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable fractioning of a large number of types with a high precision without being influenced by a size and mass of drop liquid, by a method wherein two pairs of electrostatic deflecting plates crossing each other at right angles are mounted so that drop liquid is deflected radially from the center position of the deflecting plates. CONSTITUTION:A cell sorter is consituted such that, in addition to two electrostatic deflecting plates 11-1 and 11-2, another pair of electrostatic plates 21-1 and 21-2 crossing the plates 11-1 and 11-2 at right angles, are mounted. A radiation center O of a receptacle 22, divided in a radial manner, is positioned so that it coincides with a free drop point of drop liquid 13. Meanwhile, the drop liquid 13 is charged with electricity by a charging circuit, and with this it drops and passes a space formed with the deflecting plates 11-1, 11-2, 21-1, and 21-2. In the case of the passage, magnitude and directions of electrostatic fields Ex and Ey are appropriately determined, and a given electrostatic force is added to the drop liquid 13. This permits fractioning of a large number of types with a high precision without being influenced by the size and mass of the drop liquid.
