Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove oxygen easily from the inside of the gas in a vessel by interposing a solidified electrolyte between a porous cathode and an anode, and bringing the gas into contact with the cathode.
CONSTITUTION: A solidified electrolyte 4, for example, an NaOH or KOH soln. which is gelled by a high-polymer water absorbing agent is interposed between a porous cathode 3 and an anode 5. A suction hole 1 and a discharging hole 2 are connected to a sealed vessel, and the gas in the vessel is circulated through the hole 1 and the hole 2; at the same time, a DC voltage is applied between the cathode 3 and the anode 5 from an electric power source 7. Then, oxygen from the inside of the gase in contact with the cathode 3 dissolves as OH- into the electrolyte 4 and the OH- returns again to O2 on the anode 5. The produced O2 is discharged to the surface side 6 opposite from the electrolyte 4. In this way, the concn. of the oxygen in the sealed vessel is kept at a desired value or below.
