Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover hydrogen with good efficiency by relatively low electric power by acting hydrogen sulfide upon anode in generating hydrogen by electrolytically reducing protic material.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen sulfide 3 is introduced into an electrolytic cell 1 having electrodes 2 with a compressor 3. In the cell, it is subjected to oxidiation at the anode and when electrolyte is acidic, sulfur is formed, whilist hydrogen 4 is generated at the cathode. The sulfur 5 formed in the cell 1 is withdrawn to the outside of the system through a filter 6, and the remaining electrolyte is returned into the cell 1 with the compressor 7. Otherwise, hydrogen sulfide 3 is introduced into an absorption tower 8, where it reacts with oxidation-reduction-type material, thence the reacted liquid is sent to the filter 6, by which the sulfur 5 is recovered. The oxidation-reduction-type material changes from oxidized form to reduced form owing to the reaction in the tower 8, and this liquid is next introduced into the anode chamber of the cell 1, where it is regenerated to the oxidized form an is sent into the power 8. On the other hand, hydrogen 4 is recovered in the cathode chamber of the cell 1.
