Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formulaI(R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H or lower alkyl; X is O or methylene; m is 1W3; n is 0W2).
EXAMPLE: 4-{2-[2-( 2-Methoxyphenoxy )ethylamino]-2-methylethyl}-2-(methylthio)phenetole.
USE: It has α-adrenaline receptor blocking activity, and is useful as a hypotensor.
PROCESS: The ketone of formula II is condensed with the amine of formula III by heating in an organic solvent such as methanol to obtain the compound of formula IV. If necessary after separating the compound from the reaction mixture, the product is reduced either by contacting with H2 in the presence of a catalyst such as platinum oxide or by using a reducing agent such as NaBH4 to obtain the objective compound of formulaI.
