Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an instantaneous adhesive easily, by condensing a cyanoacetic ester with HCHO in the presence of a basic catalyst, treating the reaction mixture with an acidic ion exchange resin, separating the resultant reaction product, and depolymerizing the separated product.
CONSTITUTION: A cyanoacetic ester is subjected to the addition condensation with HCHO in the presence of a basic catalyst, e.g. LiOH, in an organic solvent usually at about 50W90°C, and an acidic ion exchange resin is added thereto. The resultant mixture is then stirred at the upper limit temperature of heat resistance or below of the ion exhange resin for 1W2hr, and the ion exchange resin is then filtered off. The resultant product is then depolymerized by the conventional method to give the aimed compound of the formula (R is alkyl, etc.). A strongly acidic cation exchange resin is preferred as the acidic ion exchange resin.
EFFECT: The depolymerization step is facilitated simply by carrying out easy operations, and the quality and stability of the synthetic monomer are improved.
