Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate sensing errors and miss and to smooth the operation of a welding robot by connecting an electric power source for detection to a consumable electrode of an MIG welding torch and making the detection of the working line of the work possible. CONSTITUTION:A dummy electrode device consisting of a holding cylinder 2, a metallic dummy electrode 3 which is fitted loosely and supported to and by the leading end of the cylinder 2 and is electrically isolated from the cylinder 2, and an actuator 6 provided at the trailing end of the cylinder 2. The output shaft of said actuator 6 is connected to the base end of the electrode 3 by means of a flexible member and permits moving in and out of the electrode 3. A collar 3b and a stepped part 2c which regulate the extent of projection of the electrode 3 during its projection are contained in said cylinder 2. A detecting power source 13a of which voltage and small current is connected to said electrode 3, and the working line WL of the work WK is detected by this.
