Abstract
PURPOSE:To generate an arc surely at the starting in automatic welding by oscillating a torch while a consumable electrode is kept put in contact with the work prior to generation of the arc at the welding start. CONSTITUTION:After the start of welding work, a welding torch 2 moves from the retreat position to a welding position, where a welding wire 4 is fed and its leading end contacts with the work 1. Thereafter, the torch 2 is oscillated finely. In this case, it is difficult to specify the oscillation amplitude of the torch 2 unequivocally as it varies with the diameter of the wire 4, a distance l1, a welding method, etc., but it is effective if it is set at about 2-6mm.. After this oscillation, voltage is applied between the wire 4 and the work 1. In this case, the leading end part of the wire is rubbed with the work on account of the oscillation of the torch and the film of the leading end part of the wire is removed; therefore, the arc is generated surely.
