Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to perform welding without producing any spatter at the arc starting by providing a nonconsumable electrode type arc generating device to the feed path of a filler core wire fed from a contact tip at the arc starting.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of arc starting, first electric power is supplied from a starting electric power source 12 to iginite a TIG arc 13 between a nonconsumable electrode 10 and the base metals 6 to be welded, after which the switch or a troch is operated in the manner similar to that in conventional methods by which a filler core wire 6 is fed into the arc 13. The feeding causes an electric current to flow between the core wire 5 and the base metals 6, with the arc 13 as a medium, thereby igniting the arc. That is, welding electric current flows in a state that proper arc voltage is maintained at the moment when the core wire 5 enters the arc 13. This moves to the arc, thus the arc starting may be done without short-circuiting the core wire 5 to the base metals 6.
