Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the arc starting of a large-diameter wire for welding sure and easy by forming molten metal with a small-diameter wire and heating the part right under the large-diameter wire.
CONSTITUTION: A welding power source 7 is turned ON by closing a switch 6 and at this same instant, a small-diameter wire 11 is fed. When the small-diameter wire 11 advances in flux 16 and its leading end comes into contact with the surface of the material 1 to be welded, the small-diameter wire 11 is conducted with current through a conduction line 17. Because of this, an auxiliary arc 18 is generated between the surface of the material 1 and the tip of the small-diameter wire 11, and molten metal 14 is formed right under the top of the large-diameter wire 2. Thence, when the large-diameter wire 2 is fed, the tip approaches to the molten metal 14, thus the arc starting takes place easily and the current is supplied from the conducting line 19. Once the arc is formed between the large-diameter wire 2 and the material 1, the feeding of the small-diameter wire 11 is stopped.
