PURPOSE:To perform electroslag welding with high efficiency by simple work procedures, by rotating a feed nozzle holding roller in accordance with proceeding of welding, drawing up the feed nozzle, and performing the welding. CONSTITUTION:A feed nozzle 2 is a nonconsumption nozzle whose feeding part is constituted of a material excellent in conductivity, such as copper or a copper alloy. It is inserted into the beveling surrounded by a base metal 1, a fixed copper water-cooled plate 9 and a backing steel plate 10, and as soon as an electric power supply is turned on, an arc is generated between the tip of a welding wire 7 and the base metal 1, a flux is thrown in, a molten slag pool 11 is formed, and slag welding is started. When welding is started and proceeds, a welding current is detected so that a dry extension 8 of the welding wire 7 is held at a set value, the feed nozzle 2 is drawn up by a holding roller 3 driven as a molten metal 12 rises, and elevating welding is performed.
