Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the drooping of molten metal and make possible all posture and high-performance welding by supplying current suitably to a consumable type follow-up electrode so that it is alternately made cold wire or hot wire.
CONSTITUTION: Welding current is supplied from a DC welding machine 3 between the welding work 1 and a consumable electrode 2 to generate an arc column 4. On the other hand, a feed motor 9 is driven to feed a consumable follow-up electrode 7 into the column 4 by way of feed rollers 8. In this case, the welding voltage of a preceding torch 5 is measured with a voltmenter 10 and is fed back to a switching control unit 11. The ON and OFF of the welding current of the follow-up electrode torch 6 are then accomplished by switching 12. By these ON and OFF, the electrode 7 is made hot wire or cold wire and their rates with time are controlled according to the welding voltage, i.e. welding current, by the voltmeter 10.
