Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of the oxide on the surface of a photoreceptor by providing a surface conduction suppressing layer consisting of 1 kind of a compd. among SiNX, SiCY, MgF2, CeF3 and AlF3 on the surface of the amorphorous silicon photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous silicon photoconductive layer is formed by a plasma CVD method using gaseous SiH4+10ppmB2H6 on conductive substrate, for example, a glass substrate which is vapor-deposited thereon with Al. Plasma is generated by using gaseous (60%SiH4+40%N2), whereby an SiNX layer is formed thereon. It is possible to prevent the degradation in electrostatic charging characteristics on account of the surface conduction induced by sticking of water in air on the oxide layer formed by the reaction of the active amorphous silicon with the oxygen in the air, by forming such surface conduction suppressing layer.
