PURPOSE:To easily manufacture an element, also to decrease the number of switches for reading, and to make width of the element equal to that of an original, by constituting a transparent conductive thin film of an image pickup element used for a reading device, of a continuous film without splitting it. CONSTITUTION:On a substrate 1, plural split electrodes 2, a transparent conductive thin film 8, a drawing-out type electrode 3 connected to this thih film 8, an insulating film 4 and a common electrode 6. Also, between the electrode 2 and the thin film 8, a photoconductive thin film 7 is formed, and the electrode 2 and the thin films 7, 8 are laminated in layers, by which a photodetector 9 is formed. This photodetector 9 is divided into blocks 10-1-10-4, and each electrode 2 corresponding to the odd number of these respective blocks 10-1- 10-4 and each electrode 2 corresponding to the even number of them are connected, and also plural illumination light sources are placed so that the parts of an original corresponding to the blocks 10-1-10-4 can be illuminated independently. Said light sources are driven by time division, its power consumption is reduced, and also the element is manufactured easily.
