Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the reversible color developing and erasing characteristics of an electrochromic display body (ECD) by forming the opposite electrode having a solid electrolyte layer by applying specified kneaded ink contg. carbon powder as an electrically conductive filler to the layer. CONSTITUTION:Kneaded ink is prepared using carbon powder such as acetylene black, other carbon black or carbon fiber, a binder such as acrylic resin or epoxy resin, a reversibly oxidizable substance such as TiO2, Fe3O4, FeS or a hydroquinone deriv. and a solvent with 150-270 deg.C b.p. The ink is applied to a solid electrolyte layer 7 and dried to form a reversibly oxidizable opposite electrode 9. An electrically conductive layer 10 is then formed on the electrode 9 with an electrically conductive coating. The electrode 9 plays an auxiliary roll in the color development of an EC layer 3. Thus, an ECD with superior color developing and erasing characteristics can be manufactured easily and simply by screen printing or other method.
