Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture gold with ≥8 nines purity by cooling and solidifying molten gold refined by an oxidation method and a zone melting method, setting the resulting pure gold ingot on a smooth table, and sliding an electromagnet on the ingot while heating the ingot to a temp. close to the melting temp. of gold.
CONSTITUTION: Oxygen or air is blown into molten gold to oxidize and remove impurities such as Al, Fe, Zn and nonmetals, and it is treated by a zone melting method by which components other than gold are gathered at an end by repeating slow passing through a zonal heating part kept at about 1,100°C in a furnace. The treated gold is cooled and solidified to obtain a pure gold ingot 2. The ingot 2 is set on a heat resistant table 1 having a very smooth surface, and an electromagnet 3 is slid on the ingot 2 while in contact with the upper surface of the ingot 2. At the same time, the ingot 2 is heated to 1,000W1,040°C close to the melting temp. of glod by high frequency heating. Impurities in the ingot 2 are shifted and gathered at a part close to a bottom end of the ingot, and the part are removed by cutting.
