Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the unidirectionally solidified material having the selectional size and shape which are changed in the lengthwise direction by heating the outside circumferential layer of the molten metal well by the electromagnetic induction heating coil provided in contact with the loam mold for molten metal solidification forming of an electroslag remelting method.
CONSTITUTION: Power is supplied from a power source 14 via sliding current-supplying brush 13 only to the electromagnetic induction heating coil 11 of the portions adjoining to the lateral directions of a molten metal well 6 such as of carbon steel or the like. Since the outside circumferential layer of the well 6 is heated by this, the molten metal of the well 6 is cooled by the heat transfer to a starting table 9 and a water-cooled copper-made loam mold 10 in the lower part through transfer to the already frozen electroslag remelted meterial 8 in the lower part. As a result, the solidification boundary face 7 becomes flat and crystalizes in the direction of 15. In this way the well 6 is heated by the coil 11 other than by heating through an electrode 1 from the power source 4, thus the heat gradient near the solidification boundary face 7 becomes large and ideal unidirectionally solidified material is obtained.
