Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce hydrogen overvoltage and improve corrosion resistance and durability by coating the cathode of various electrolytic cells accompanying hydrogen generation reaction with an Ni plating layer contg. S.
CONSTITUTION: A cathode used for electrolytic reaction generating hydrogen from the cathode of water electrolysis, aqueous alkali chloride electrolysis, etc. is constituted by forming an Ni plating layer contg. S on a substrate of Fe based alloy. As a plating bath for this Ni plating, an Ni plating bath of <6pH, and contg. 0.1W2.0mol concns. Ni salts such as Ni sulfate, Ni chloride, ammonium Ni sulfate, Ni sulfamate, or Ni thiocyanate, thiocyan group contg. salts contg. 0.05W0.9mol thiocyan groups such as Na salt, K salt, ammonium salt of thiocyanic acid or Ni thiocyanate and ammonium ions of concn. ≥1.1 times mole the concn. of the thiocyanogen base is used. The Ni-plated cathode of low hydrogen overvoltage and superior corrosion resistance or the like is obtained.
