Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a deterioration in plating quality due to coprecipitation of trace amts. of lead by pretreating a sheet with a pickling soln. contg. a predetermined amt. of Ni and Sn salts to electrolytically precipitate slight amts. of Ni and Sn as well as to carry out pickling. CONSTITUTION:1-5 g/l of SnSO4 and NiSO4 are added to a 5-10 g/l soln. of H2SO4 having a sufficient pickling effect in case electrolysis is not carried out. A steel sheet is dipped in the resulting soln. in the first half of a bath to purify both sides of the sheet by pickling and to obtain active sides. In the latter half of the same bath, electrolysis is carried out using the sheet as cathode at a low current density of 1-10 A/dm<2> for 0.5-2 sec to precipitate 10-40 mg/m<2> of Sn and Ni on the sides of the sheet. By this pretreatment sufficient heat resistance and stabilization of Pb are attained even in Zn plating using a lead type insol. anode.
