Abstract
1525165 Purifying electrorefining electrolyte NORANDA MINES Ltd 6 Oct 1976 [2 Aug 1976] 41564/76 HeadingC7B Cu refinery electrolyte containing Cu and As (and optionally Sb and Bi) is purified by passing it through electrolytic cells containing insoluble anodes e.g. of Pb or Pb-Sb alloy, passing D.C. to electro-deposit Cu and As (and optionally Sb and Bi) on to cathodes e.g. of Cu or steel and periodically reversing the current to minimize formation of arsine gas at the cathodes. The current density may be between 5 and 30 ASF, forward current passing for 5 to 30 second periods while reverse current passes for 1 to 4 second periods alternating with the forward current; the ratio of reverse to forward current duration may be between ¢ and <SP>1</SP>/ 10 . The electrolyte may be an aqueous sulphuric acid solution containing Cu and As which is recirculated during electro-deposition at between 50 and 70‹C.
