Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a highly sensitive infrared sensor, by utilizing an ultrasonic transducer which is obtained by providing the first and second reed screen-shaped electrodes, separately from each other, on one surface of a macromolecular piezoelectric film, and flat plate-shaped electrodes corresponding to said electrodes respectively on the other surface. CONSTITUTION:On one surface of a macromoleculr piezoelectric film 1 such as polyvinyldiene fluoride (PVF2), the first and second reed screen-shaped electrodes 2 and 3 are provided separately from each other, so that the teeth of each pair of comb tooth-shaped electrodes are alternately arranged. On the other surface, flat plate-shaped electrodes 4 and 5 are provided confronting the electrodes 2 and 3. Between one comb tooth-shaped electrode of the first electrode 2 and the electrode 4, an AC electrical signal source 6 of frequency f is provided to generate an ultrasonic wave. The output of the ultrasonic wave is detected by a differential amplifier 7 connected to the terminals A'-O' of one comb tooth-shaped electrode of the second electrode 3 and the electrode 5 and the terminals B'-O' of the other comb tooth-shaped electrode and the electrode 5. Because the output of the ultrasonic wave changes with the intensity of the infrared rays applied to the film 1, receiving the ultrasonic wave by the second electrode 3 permits the infrared ray intensity to be sensitively measured.
