Abstract

PURPOSE:To exactly measure a difference in the ultrasonic wave propagation speed between a reference liquid and a liquid to be measured by means of an ultrasonic transducer composed of a slitted electrode in which a piezoelectric material and a pair of comb-shaped electrodes are combined interdigitally. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave receiver/transmitter is composed of a slitted electrode 11a or 11b provided on one surface of a piezoelectric body 10a or 10b separated from each other and a slitted electrode 12a or 12b. These two ultrasonic wave transmitter/receivers are so arranged in individual chambers 2a and 2b that the surface provided with the slitted electrode gets into contact with the liquid while an ultrasonic wave emitted from emission transducers A1 and B1 propagates and then is reflected on the wall surfaces of the chamber 2a and 2b to reach receiving transducers A2 and B2. A phase difference detector 20 is connected to output terminals 14a and 14b of the slitted electrodes 12a and 12b in the receiving transducers A2 and B2.
