Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a high-reliability and efficient measurement by arraying several couples of transmitting-receiving vibrators in a line via an acoustic shield and by transmitting and receiving waves between adjacent vibrators by sequentially changing vibrators over.
CONSTITUTION: Ultrasonic transmitting probe 1 with transmitting vibrator 3 and ultrasonic receiving prove 2 with receiving vibrator 4 are arranged with acoustic shield material 5 interposed. Now, applying a pulse voltage across vibrator 3 emits ultrasonic beams as shown by arrows 6, 7 and 8 from liquid medium 9 into detected body 10, where respective beams propagate as shown by arrows 6A, 7A and 8A. Here, beam 6A is reflected by the bottom surface of detected body 10 and received by receiver 4 to measure its thickness from the propagation time. Beams 8A and 6A propagate by refracting toward the opposite side, but if the recerver would be arranged on the opposite side, they are received by the receiver to measure the opposite-side thickness. Consequently, the size of each part of detected body 10 can be measured by a line of transmitters and receivers.
