Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate desalination of sea water with high efficiency, by spraying sea water into low-temperature vaporized gas to convert almost all of the sea water into crystal particles, and bringing sufficiently precooled sea water into contact with the crystal particles to form crystal seeds of ice.
CONSTITUTION: Low-temperature vaporized gas controlled at -80±20°C is sprayed through a low-temperature-gas feed pipe 13 connected to the lower part of a heat exchanger 1 and a spout 3 provided in a gas pipe 2 into the heat exchanger 1. The sea water, whose heat was taken away in a heat exchanging part 9, solidifies, becomes crystal particles, and is cooled at a temperature below its solidification point during dropping. The sea water reaches a lower sea water reservoir 8. In the sea water reservoir 8, stock sea water precooled by fresh water or the like from a fresh water tank 10 is agitated with the crystal particles of the solidified sea water by an agitator 7, and supercooled till the crystal particle surface melt and crystal seeds of ice are formed in the stock sea water. Thus, slurry is formed, and fed into a desalinating tank 10 to produce fresh water.
