Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a partition wall having a bundle of small tubes passing therethrough with a high airtightness, by inserting the bundle of the small tubes in an opened part formed from a frame of the top, middle and bottom members, and sintering a sealing material while pressing the bundle with pressing members in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the bundle of the small tubes.
CONSTITUTION: Pressing members 23 and 24 are inserted respective from two opened parts in the horizontal direction of a mold formed from a frame of the top member 22, middle members 26 and 27 and bottom member 25 to form a hollow chamber. A bundle 21 consisting of many small tubes is inserted from the opening 32 of the member 22 to a position where the end of the bundle reaches the surface of the member 25, and a sealing material 19, e.g. glass, is simultaneously filled in the periphery of the bundle 21 of the small tubes. The material 19 is then heated to a given temperature, and the members 23 and 24 are made to slide to the axis of the bundle 21 of the small tubes and reduce gradually the volume of the opened part 33. According to the pressing operation, the gap of the material 19 is eliminated to form a uniform melt or sintered material, and the gap of the bundle 21 of the small tubes is filled with the material 19 to give the aimed partition wall having the bundle 21 of the small tubes passing therethrough.
