PURPOSE:To miniaturize both anode side and discharge lamp by covering the end of a glass tube air-tightly with a metal alloy cap containing Fe and Ni and using the inside of the cap as an anode face. CONSTITUTION:The metal alloy cap 5 containing Fe and Ni, together with cobalt, is covered on the end of a glass tube in such a way that the central part 6 of the cap is projected by the depth l3, e.g., approximately 2mm., into the glass tube. Also, the metal alloy cap 5 is airtightly kept by means of the airtight frit 7 having an expansion coefficient similar to that of the metal alloy cap 5, and the inside of the central part 6 at the bottom of the cap 5 is used as the anode. Thus, the anode side can be greatly shortened and therefore the discharge lamp can be miniaturized.
