Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare goethite having sharp particle size distribution, by feeding a ferrous salt solution and an alkaline aqueous solution continuously to a tank, and circulating the produced suspension of hydroxide to a tank of non-oxidizing state through a circulation path, wherein a part of said path is in oxidizing state and the rest part of the path is in non-oxidizing state.
CONSTITUTION: A ferrous salt solution, e.g. aqueous solution of ferrous sulfate, and an alkaline aqueous solution, e.g. aqueous solution of caustic soda, are fed to a mixer 3 through the pumps 1, 2, and mixed together to obtain hydroxide. The hydroxide suspension is sent to the tank4 which is made to non-oxidizing state by introducing nitrogen gas through the pipe 5. After charging a definite amount of the suspension, the supply is stopped, and the pump 7 is operated to extract a part of the hydroxide suspension and circulate through the circulation path 6. The circulation path 6 is supplied with air by the gas-introducing means 9, and the air is mixed with the suspension in the gas-liquid mixer 8 to effect the oxidation of the hydroxide in the suspension. The suspension discharged from the gas-liquid mixer 8 is transferred to the gas-liquid separator 10, in which air is separated from the suspension restoring the suspension to the non- oxidizing state.
