Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide highly dispersible high-purity zinc ferrite having narrower particle size distribution than conventional one by a method wherein alkali is added to an aqueous solution contg. divalent iron salt and zinc salt, the solution is adjusted to specific temperature range and pH, then is brought into contact with an oxygen- contg. gas.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution having a molar ratio of 1.95W2.1 of divalent iron salt such as ferrous sulfate heptahydrate to zinc salt such as zinc sulfate heptahydrate (divalent iron salt used in 0.7W1.6mol/l) is added with NaOH, the temperature is adjusted to 40W70°C, and pH to 5W7. Then the solution is heated to 71W100°C and while maintaining pH within ±0.3 between 5W7, oxidation reaction is conducted by contact with oxygen-contg. gas, so that zinc ferrite with narrow size distribution is obtained. As compared with oxidation reaction in alkaline condition, the method excludes mixed impurity and greatly enhances volume efficiency.
