Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain metal cobalt powder with excellent electromagnetic conversion properties by reducing cobalt oxyhydroxide by means of prescribed processes.
CONSTITUTION: Using cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoO.OH) as a starting material, which is obtained for instance by a reaction of cobalt sulfate with sodium hydroxide. Obtaining Co metal powder by heat treating above mentioned starting meterial to convert to Co2O3 and then reducing it, or by reducing the starting material directly. Co metal powder for magnetic recording with execellent electromagnetic conversion properties can be obtained by this process.
