Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve utilization of an active material, discharge voltage, mechanical strength of an electrode, and cycle life of a battery by mixing conductive fibers having at least two kinds of length in an active material, and by forcing this mixture manufactured in a form of paste with a binder solution to adhere onto a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Long conductive fibers are good for holding active materials. But sometimes these fibers are caught between a slit and continuous coating is disturbed. The conductive fibers reduced in their size so short that they may not be caught between the slit are still far larger than the conductive powder, and are sufficiently effective for increasing conductivity, that is, voltage and utilization, although not so much effective for increasing mechanical strength. Therefore, the quantity of long fibers should be assigned as much as to the extent where neither disturbance against passing through the slit not cracks in an electrode occurs, and the duly reduced amount of long fiber is replaced by short fibers to obtain an excellent electrode.
