Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the uneven distribution of fibers in a battery and increase capacity and cycling performance by preparing a sort of paste by adding a binder solution and fibers to powder mainly comprising an active material and applying it to a porous substrate, and by forcing it to pass a slit to be smoothed. CONSTITUTION:Fibers are added to a binder solution and stirred and mixed sufficiently. Powder mainly comprising an active material is added to this dispersed solution which is stirred again completly. In the first mixing, fibers are dispersed, and then, the powder mainly comprising the active material is mixed, therefore, the evenness of mixing of powder and fibers increases substantially compared with that obtained by mixing these materials simply at a time, and the strength and performance may be also improved. In the figure, the battery (b) is inferior in voltage and capacity especially in the 1C discharge. This is caused by uneven contact of active material with fibers due to the fact that conductive fibers are not dispersed uniformly in a positive electrode.
