CONSTITUTION:A paste or slurry-type milled material obtained by mixing water or an organic solvent such as ethylene glycol with an active material mainly consisting of cadmium oxide, for example, is coated on a nickel-plated porous perforated steel plate 2. Subsequently, its thickness is adjusted with the slit 6 and is heat-treated in the pre-drying furnace 7 until the slurry surface is dried, then it is compressed by 10-20% by means of the pressing rollers 8. Furthermore, ethylene glycol is completely evaporated in the drying furnace 9 and its thickness is fine- adjusted by means of the thickness adjusting rollers 10, then an unformed negative electrode plate is obtained.
