Abstract
PURPOSE:To adhere different kinds of pastes on the both sides of a supporter by a simple process by supplying electrode supporter into a hopper divided into three chambers with a pair of partition plates. CONSTITUTION:The hopper 1 is divided into three chambers with the partition plates 2 and 3. The both side chambers 4 and 5 of the hopper 1 serve, respectively, as a chamber filled with the gas-diffusion layer paste and a chamber filled with the catalyst layer paste, and the central chamber 6 serves as a space through which the electrode supporter 7 passes. In the manufacture of electrode, the diffusion layer paste-filling chamber 4 is first filled with the diffusion layer paste 9, prepared by mixing a mixture of a graphite subjected to a water-proof treatemnt and a fluororesin as a binder with a PVA aqueous solution as a pasting agent, and then the catalyst layer paste-filling chamber 5 is filled with the catalyst layer paste 10, prepared by mixing the diffusion layer paste 9 with a catalyst powder. Then, the electrode supporter 7 is supplied into the central chamber 6 and then drawn out of the nozzle 1', whereby the gas diffusion layer parte 9 and the catalyst layer paste 10 are, respectively, adhered to both sides of the supporter 7.
