PURPOSE:To enhance the high-rate discharge characteristic of a dry type air cell by forming an air electrode, which is made of a positive mixture, with a plural number of layers having a different air transmittance, and making the air transmittance of a positive-collecting-plate side layer larger than that of a negative-plate side layer. CONSTITUTION:A battery frame 1 is provided with a negative plate 4, a conductive film 5 and a separator layer 6. A positive mixture 7 consists of about 75-95% of a layer 7-1 prepared by mixing active carbon with a given proportion by weight of an electrolyte, and about 25-5% of a layer 7-2 prepared by mixing an active carbon powder, which has an equalized grain diameter and has larger air transmitting ability and air diffusing ability than a usually used one, with a given proportion by weight of the electrolyte. The positive mixture 7 is placed on the separator layer 6, thereby a unit cell for a layer-built dry type air cell being constituted. Owing to the above constitution, an appropriate amount of air can permeate through the whole layers of the positive mixture 7, since the mixture 7 has a plural number of layers transmitting a different amount of air. Consequently, the high-rate discharge characteristic of the air cell can be greatly enhanced.
