Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat resistant steel superior to 18-8 stainless steel in both corrosion resistance and strength at high temp. by increasing the amount of Cr, using N for maintaining austenite phase, combinedly adding Al and Mg, and further adding Mo or W.
CONSTITUTION: This steel consists of 0.01W0.20% C, ≤3% Si, ≤10% Mn, 20W 35% Cr, 10W45% Ni, 0.04W0.25% N, 0.01W0.5% Al, 0.001W0.05% Mg, 0.5W3.0% Mo and/or 0.5W6.0% W satisfying Mo+1/2W=0.5W3.0, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. Both Mo and W increase the strength at high temp. by solubilizing and strengthening, yet less than the lower limits of Mo and W do not produce the effects. They precipitate finely intermetallic compounds such as Fe2Mo and Fe2W and contribute largely toward enhancing the strength at high temp., yet excess Mo and W deteriorate the workability. Accordingly, the upper limits of Mo and W and the total amount of them in case of combined addition are restricted.
