Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve thermal conversion efficiency of a radiator, by providing a shutoff valve and air container chamber through a communication passage above the main body of the radiator that condenses and liquefies steam in cooling water. CONSTITUTION:A shutoff valve 25 and air container chamber 22 are provided on the upper part of a radiator main body 20 through a communication passage 21. When an engine is started, air in heat radiating space 23 is pressurized by return steam pressure from a steam passage 29 and confined to the air container chamber 22. If the air almost reaches the containment pressure or temperature, negative pressure from a solenoid valve 27 is introduced to a negative pressure actuator 26 to close the shutoff valve 25. In this way, almost 100% effective volume of the heat radiating space 23 is used, thus steam can be efficiently cooled and liquefied.
