Abstract

The engine has a double acting floating piston (5) operating in a cylinder (1). The cylinder is filled with hot fluid supplied through the inlet piping (18) and the suction valves (16), and into the power cylinder (2) by the piping (24). The fluid is cooled in the heat exchanger (7) and the cold fluid is supplied by the pipes (19) to the exchanger (8). The auxiliary cylinders (2a3a) prevent the pressure in the system falling to a low value likely to cause vapourisation in the system.
