PURPOSE:To hold both liquid crystal cell thickness constant and to manufacture cells easily and efficiently in a short time, by cutting part of the edge of the intermediate transparent substrate of a multilayered liquid crystal cell into a recess shape deeper than a sealing agent, and injecting liquid crystal into both the sides of the intermediate substrate through the recessed part at the same time. CONSTITUTION:On surfaces of transparent substrates 1, 4 and 6 which come into contact with liquid crystal 7, transparent electrodes 2 are provided respectively, and oriented films 3 and 5 are provided on the electrodes 2. At one edge of this intermediate substrate 4, a groove 8 is formed in a recess shape deeper than a sealing material. Liquid crystal 7 is injected into cells on both sides of the substrate from the groove 8 at the same time. Then, the groove is sealed up after the injection. Thus, liquid-crystal layers 7 among the substrates 1, 4 and 6 are formed to uniform thickness, and a reliable display device which performs multilayer color display is manufactured easily in a short manufacture time.
