Abstract

PURPOSE:To lower the hardness of the low carbon steel heated to above its austenitizing temp. through spheroidization of deposited carbide by cooling said steel from its A1 transformation temp. down to prescribed temp., thence heating the same to the temps. lower by a prescribed temp. range than the A1 transformation temp. and holding it at these temps. CONSTITUTION:Low carbon steel of <=0.3wt% of content of C is heated to temp. higher by 50-300 deg.C than the A3 transformation temp., that is, austenizing temp. Next, the low carbon steel after the heating is cooled down to the temp. lower by 50 deg.C than the A1 transformation temp. at about 20-50 deg.C/hr cooling rates. Thence, the low carbon steel after the deposition of carbide is heated and held at the temp. range lower by 5-50 deg.C than the A1 transformation temp. whereby carbide is aggregated and spheroidized gradually. The heating and holding time of this case is satisfactory if it is 30min or about 1hr with the steel of about 25mm. wall thickness.
