Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of heat to be used for heating an austenite- based stainless steel by a method in which an sustenite-based steel CC slab is hot-rolled in such a way that delta-ferrite residual content does not exceed a specific value by selecting a heating temperature at 1,150-1,280 deg.C and a retension time. CONSTITUTION:An austenite-based stainless steel containing 18-20wt% Cr and 8-10.5wt% Ni and also delta-ferrite amount (deltacal%) and N(%), each satisfying equationsIand II, is prepared and cast continuously. The cast strip thus obtained is hot-rolled without being passed through a heating furnace or heated in the heating furnace and then hot-rolled. In this case, by knowing the delta-ferrite value of the cast strip, the strip is heat-treated in a temperature zone of 1,150- 1,280 deg.C for a necessary retention period of time in order to eliminate delta-ferrite to an extent that the residual amount of ferrite does not exceed 0.3%, and then the cast strip is hot-rolled.
