Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent sensitization caused by welding heat, i.e., intergrain corrosion and intergrain type stress corrosion cracks by applying specific stabilization treatment to stabilized austenitic stainless steel added with Nb, Ti, etc. CONSTITUTION:Solid solution treatment is applied to stabilized austenitic stainless steel in which Nb, Ti, etc. is added to render contained C to be NbC, TiC so as to prevent Cr23C6 from forming at grain boundaries. Then, the steel is heated to have temperature gradient such that the area to be welded is locally heated to temperature Th deg.C or more in which NbC, TiC start precipitating, and other area is at temperature between Th deg.C and Tm deg.C at which Cr23C6 starts precipitating. During heating process in this thermal treatment, NbC, TiC is precipitated and therefore dissolved C in the base is greatly reduced. As a result, dissolved C content becomes higher in the adjacent area where temperature is higher than Th deg.C, and C diffuses into low C concentration area and results in less than 0.02%. Thus, Cr23C6 formation at grain boundaries is prevented, Cr concentration is not reduced, and no stress corrosion cracks occurs.
