Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the delta ferrite phase in non-equilibrium based on the microsegregation of Ni and Cr induced at the casting by heating a slab of controlled components exhibiting intrinsically an austenite signal phase within a specific temp. range prior to hot rolling. CONSTITUTION:A slab of, for example, SUS304 steel or SUS301 steel is heated to 1,250-1,350 deg.C, after which it is hot-rolled and is made into a steel plate product by way of one or more times of annealing. By this heating, the degree of the microsegration of Ni and Cr, that is, the difference in the concns. of Ni and Cr between a delta ferrite phase and an austenite phase is decreased. At the subsequent treatment such as solution heat treatment annealing or the like, the delta ferrite phase is made easy to transform to the austenite phase. The higher the above-described heating temp., the less the above-mentioned difference in concns. but above the upper limit, the scaling in a heating furnace is excessive and the production of surface flaws is significant. Below the lower limit, it is not possible to obtain a sufficient decrease in the degree of segregation. The heating time of about 10-30min is sufficient.
