Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve strength and ductility by controlling quenching rate and properly adjusting martensite formation amount at the time of continuously annealing a steel plate by quenching the same from two phase region temperatures of ferrite and austenite. CONSTITUTION:At the time of continuously annealing a steel plate 8, it is heated to the temp. region where the two phases of ferrite and austenite coexist in structure in a heating zone, whereby it is made into two-phase structure, after which it is quenched in the quenching zone 28 in succession to the soaking zone. In this case, the austenite amount in the steel plate which has passed a cooling unit 50 is measured with an austenite amount measuring device 56 by an X-ray diffraction method provided in the quenching zone 28. This measured value is put together with the temp. measured value of the steel plate by a thermometer 54 into a calculator 58. An upper stream side cooler 50 is controlled by this calculator 59 so that the temp. of the steel plate becomes the temp. just above the initiation of martensite deposition; in addition, the steel plate conveying speed is so controlled that the austenite amount detected with the measuring device 56 becomes the predetermined amount corresponding to the martensite amount in the product, whereby the steel plate cooling rate is properly controlled.
