Abstract

1508515 Zinc smelting; heat transmitting fluids ISC SMELTING Ltd 9 Feb 1977 [1 March 1976] 08024/76 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] In a method of blast furnace smelting of oxide zinc material, the product gas stream contains gases and zinc vapour which is condensed by a spray of molten lead. Part of the heat contained in the molten lead leaving the condenser is transferred to a heat exchanger immersed in the molten lead and containing a liquid heat transfer medium, which heats the transfer liquid to over 200‹C. The transfer liquid may be diphenyl/diphenyl oxide mixtures, double rates or salt mixtures, metals and alloys which are molten and fluid at 200‹C and above, or it may be high pressure water. The heat contained in the heat-transfer liquid may be used for many purposes i.e. raising steam for process heating. Additional heat may be reclaimed from the hot off-gases by a heat exchange process.
