Abstract
PURPOSE: To deposit metal Mg on a grating at a high production speed and high yield by holding the liquid level of reaction between molten Mg and supplied TiCl4 above a container distance from the top surface of a lower grating.
CONSTITUTION: The internal space of an external cylinder 3 is put in an atmosphere of Ar gas, and then the whole body is heated by the heater 9 of an electric heating furnace 4 up to prescribed temperature, thereby melting metal Mg supplied into an internal cylinder 5. In this case, the metal Mg is supplied in such a way that its melting surface is above the top surface of a grating 6 invariably. Then, liquid TiCl4 is introduced, as shown by 7, from the top of the internal cylinder 5 to cause reaction, and the Ti settled on the grating 6 is taken out through a molten-metal discharging method 2 at the bottom of the external cylinder 3. Meanwhile, other parts are held nearly at prescribed temperature and the internal cylinder 5 whose internal space is packed with contents, including sponge-like Ti, by about 90% is obtained.
