Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic powder with a high performance lubricating layer, whose surface friction coefficient is lowered, by a method in which the surfaces of the magnetic powder are covered with a metal capable of chemically reacting with a fatty acid, and then the metal is reacted with the fatty acid.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic powder, such as permanent magnet material (e.g., SmCo5), ferrite, etc., is covered with a metal (e.g., Cu, Ag, etc.) capable of chemically reacting with a fatty acid (e.g., stearic acid). Then, the said fatty acid is reacted with the said metal covering the said magnetic powder to obtain an objective magnetic powder covered by a lubricating agent. For the magnetic powder covered by the lubricating agent, having such greatly improved magnetic characteristics, applications are found as inexpensive powdered magnet in the fields where no practical applications have so far been found.
