CONSTITUTION: When heavy metal ions in soln. 2 to be treated in container 1 are reduced, reducing agent 3 made of ferromagnetic powder of Fe, Ni, Co or an alloy thereof is added. Agent 3 rises to the surface of soln. 2, so magnet 4 is placed in soln. 2 or attached to the side or bottom of container 1 to attract agent 3 around magnet 4. Thus, agent 3 is allowed to contact well to soln. 2 to accelerate reduction. By making use of a magnet operations such as introduction of agent 3 into container 1, extraction of agent 3 and solid-liq. separation can be performed easily. This method can effectively be applied to the reduction of heavy metal ions in various solns.
